I have been a “mover” my whole life: an idea-a-minute, can’t sit still, got to be in the middle of things-type of gal. While I’ve dabbled in many sports, races, and events, my favorite exercise is any I am sharing with others. I’ve always cared more about the way moving makes me feel than I have about being the very best.
After college, I worked in many different offices for about 12 years, and in that time, I learned a lot about the challenges of working behind a computer for most of the day (including that 2 out of 5 office workers report gaining weight at their current job). In these jobs, I was often organizing lunch hour group runs or motivating co-workers to continue pursuing past fitness goals.
I had my first child in 2010 and began the ride of a lifetime, leaning into the joy, chaos, sleepless nights, endless days, and bedtime rejoicing that comes with parenthood. Just six months later, my husband and I moved across the country to begin a new season of life, and it was an amazing opportunity to really evaluate what I wanted. At that point I realized how so many of my passions pointed me toward partnering with others in fitness: my love of community, helping others meet their goals, promoting exercise for the confidence and strength that it gives...all of these things were a perfect match for being a personal trainer!
I feel deeply connected with hardworking parents as well as Folks who must work in sedentary environments. In some ways, these groups have similar exercise challenges: both can be mentally exhausting and leave you drained by the end of the day regardless of how much you actually have moved around! Both may make you feel ‘stuck’ with little free time for yourself.
For the past 7 years, I have built my business on the idea that fitness is for everyone - not just the elite athlete or the person who has 15 hours a week to dedicate to intense training. When I exercise, my whole outlook changes: what once felt impossible is given new perspective, and I am reminded I am strong and capable. Pursuing good health shows me I am worth the journey, that my body has and will do amazing things for me, and that I deserve the value that self-care offers. For me, fitness is also entwined with other Folks; it is a reminder that accountability is essential and the journey is always easier and more fun when others are along for the ride.
Today, I get to work with hard working Folks who want to pursue fitness for all the benefits it gives. I pride myself on making exercise fun and attainable, no matter who you are or where you are starting from.
